Day 1 Revisited

Just over a week ago on Wednesday 1st July we moved to our new home.  For a few days before the big move we had sat with so many boxes around us.

On the day of the move we both woke really early to pack the final items.  I was really anxious about if the movers would fit everything in their vans and about driving over 100 miles in the car with Tinkerbell on the dreaded motorway.

The movers were scheduled to arrive at 8am however they were over 30 minutes late which made me more anxious.  They rang to say the traffic was bad but this didn’t help me feel better at all.

When the movers arrived they firstly introduced themselves, I got upset about would they fit everything in their vans and my husband showed them around the house.

Obviously the movers were very professionals and set to work packing the vans.  My husband, Tinkerbell and I sat in the garden enjoying the morning sun of possible the hottest day for one final time before we would be leaving it behind.

Around 10:20am with the movers still moving boxes my husband suggested that I set off on the long drive and he would wait for the moving company to finish.

Tinkerbell and I stopped along the way at a service station for lunch after getting stuck in motorway traffic.

After another hour of driving we were very close to arriving at our new house.  The lovely drive from the motorway was so wonderful being in the midst of the countryside.  I kept saying to Tinkerbell as I drove we are going to our new home and being so excited.

The Sat Nav then took us through the edge of the tiny city to our new house.  As we pulled up outside it looked perfect and I knew that we were finally home.

We had arranged with the previous owner yo leave a set of keys with the neighbour so that we could gain access to the house straight away without the need to visit the estate agent as so as we arrived.

A few minutes later my Mum and Dad arrived and we were able to venture into the house together with a quick trip to the garden for Tinkerbell.

A little while later one and then the second moving vans pulled up outside the house and my coordinating skills were put into play.  The movers made it look so easy carrying heavy boxes and moving large furniture where it needed to go.  They placed all the furniture exactly in the position I wanted and each box in the correct room.

My mum was superwoman with emptying boxes labeled kitchen and utility and arranged my cupboards perfectly.

After a good few hours in the heat the movers finally finished.  With only one glass vase broken the move went extremely well.

The previous owners had left all the paperwork for absolutely everything.  They had also included what paint is used in each room, the plans for the landscaped garden including the names of the plants, where the water feature was and how to switch it on.  The previous owners even wrote us a welcome card and made some beautiful origami flowers.  They were a little too organised as they had also switched the water, gas and electric off resulting in a massive panic in the morning over the shower because we hadn’t turned the gas on.

The first night in the house was amazing to finally lay my head down on the pillow after an exhausting day and know that we were home.

Tomorrow I will share our new house tour.

Happy Thursday Friends!
