A couple of years ago we attended The CLA Game Fair which we both immensely enjoyed, Tinkerbell a little less so with on occasion with the sound of loud gun shot and the volume of people.

When I saw advertised on the famous Facebook a country festival called Asparafest I thought it would be a fun way to spend a Saturday.

Well first I do need to make clear that it was nothing remotely close to the famous CLA Game Fair at all if CLA is like large Waitrose, Asparafest is like a little remote corner shop.

The Asparafest is a two day programme Saturday/Sunday beginning in the morning and on the Saturday running until after 10pm with music events with room for those wishing to camp.

The event felt rather American when a man dressed up as an asparagus walked past clearly part of the day however later on we saw another man also dressed up as an asparagus however his costume was slightly different and it is possible he was just a visitor, he looked like he was having fun regardless.

Asparafest was well organized with various areas and activities and events that catered for both adults and children.  The cooking stage hosted a variety of different talent, we watched Nana’s food Japan – a sushi workshop.  Who realised that asparagus could be made into sushi?

The music acts performed on the Asparastage, not my cup of tea but did think that the asparagus song defiantly deserved points for originality.

We had fun watching a beautiful sheepdog guide Indian ducks through miniature gates, over water and through tunnels with the trainer using a whistle or voice commands.

Birds of pray were on display and I made sure that I kept Tinkerbell closely in my arms as their large wings and sharp claws intimidated me and looked as if they were eyeing up a sausage lunch.

As the morning progressed this modest festival was brimming with happy people enjoying the good weather and weekends programme.

We had a fun time and enjoyed each others company and the beautiful weather unlike the CLA Game Fair which we hope to attend this year which probably won’t be putting the Asparafest in our diary for next year.

Happy Saturday Friends!
