STOP completely what your doing and breathe take a moment to actually regain your focus.
Regardless of being married, single, with children, without children life can get overwhelming sometimes. Overwhelming to the extent that you can longer be useful.
Stopping can almost be impossible because how will the earth remain in orbit without us!!!
If we don’t do this, go there or work on that we will feel like we have failed some how.
Often when we can’t stop we are forced to by becoming unwell. Other times by divine intervention.
Nature shows that we need a time to rest. In winter the flowers and trees rest and some animals hibernate. After God made the world on the seventh day he rested, not that God needed to rest but it shows us that we should find time to rest and enjoy.
Resting is possible an alien word to many of those people either reading this standing or thinking about the next task that needs to be done.
Whilst I was forced into rest by being unwell I watched again the film Mom’s Night Out or if your British like me, Mum’s Night Out. The film has an incredible metaphor which is used in one of the scenes over dinner:
… You need to put your oxygen mask on first before you can assist others…
I shared this metaphor with a friend as simple as it is, a very powerful thought. We can’t be effective and everything that we are called to be of we can’t breath!
We can continue to do everything, yet achieve nothing and be a rusty bell clanging which isn’t any use to anyone.
Life isn’t perfect and filled with valleys, everyday isn’t mountain top experiences but have faith that better days will follow deep valleys and find time to take rest.
Before you finish reading find your oxygen mask, put it on and breath….only now can you assist others with their oxygen masks.
