When I was a very little girl I remember standing bare footed in the kitchen pantry probably while my mum was cooking and a very large spider crawled over my foot, it was horrendous and I still have a great fear of spiders.

In the late spring time we visited friends in the beautiful Sevenoaks in western Kent.  It was the first time that I had seen so many conkers strategically placed at every door and every window like mini goal posts.  I inquired about the conkers and found out that their purpose was to keep away the spiders.

Apparently spiders don’t like the odour produced by the conkers.

One of my good friends went conker picking as she had a bathroom spider issue and passed along a couple of the conkers.

I’ve sat them in a small dish by my bedroom window.
My hope is that the conkers work and I do need to acquire more but one thing I can say is that they do look very autumnal.

Happy Tuesday Friends!
